Working with rescued and traumatised horses, it is impossible to not feel the pain and confusion they feel about humanity. It is impossible to miss how damaged these sensitive souls have become trying to navigate the world created by humans – the world horses played a significant role in helping us craft. For, if it was not for the horse, humanity would likely be living a very different, less comfortable life than it does today.
Horses pulled our ploughs and carts, they carried the armies whose battles determined the nation states of today, they fed us physically, emotionally and spiritually, and they allowed us to connect with our true self at times when technology and society seemed intent on destroying that connection – the primary connection that gives us our actual humanity.
And how do humans treat the horse for its faithful support for 6,000 years, and all they have contributed to us. We kill them and abuse them; we whip them and spur them; we keep them in small stalls for our enjoyment; and we feed them food that is increasingly giving the horse (and our other pets) the same cancers and dis-ease we give ourselves. I cannot imagine another species humanity has treated so appallingly given how much it has supported us.
My business, and this website, is unashamedly for the support of the horse. It is to return a fraction of the love, compassion and respect we humans owe our equine friends, partners and healers. And it is to apologise to every horse abused by humans that we could not see how much we could learn from them, and appreciate the benefits that come from relationship with this most magnificent of Nature’s creations.
I hope this website, and work, encourages others to enhance their relationship with the horse, which will ultimately help humans to better understand and connect with themselves. Which will be to all our benefit – both human and non-human species.
