Since the beginning of modern human history, the horse has been part of our lives. Whether as a god-like figure that was worshipped, a messenger from the gods themselves, or as a part of the human experience on seven continents, the horse has played a key role in society developing to the state it is today. From the Eurasian nomad cultures that first developed a relationship with the horse 6,000 years ago to the modern explorers, horsemen and women, and horse whisperers, humanity has slowly enhanced its relationship with, and connection to, this most noble and inspiring of non-human sentient beings.
From the Uffington White horse in the United Kingdom, a Bronze Age carving into the land, to the worship of Pegasus by the ancient Geeks; from the Hindu God, Hayagriva to the Norse God Odin’s eight legged horse, Sleipnir, the best of horses, the equine deity has offered humanity its clearest connection to the Divine for it is without the controlling undertones of most religions. And from the 17,000 year-old cave paintings at Lascaux, France, the oldest prehistoric horse paintings in the world, to the Flying Horse of Gansu, a 2,000 year-old Chinese bronze sculpture, horses and their different forms have inspired humanity to all that is good and noble in our species.
To look, respectively, deeply into a horse’s eyes is to see your soul reflected back to you. To feel the gentle nuzzle around your ears or the soft breath on your neck, while trimming a horse’s hooves, reminds you of how much we can trust and connect with them for both our benefit. Working with horses, helping them to fully become what they are truly capable of, is to step outside the trials and tribulations of living in modern human society to connect with a joy we may never otherwise experience.
Yet today, in so many ways, humanity’s primary relationship with the horse is often based on brutality and abuse – the same brutality and abuse man applies to much of the natural world, indigenous cultures and the Feminine part of our own human nature. A brutality that uses religion and economic systems to justify its occurrence even though a quick look around the world today, even with blinkered eyes, would tell anyone is self-destructive, self-defeating and ultimately soul destroying.

Accordingly, I dedicate this website to my many equine, and feline, teachers and the wisdom and insights they have generously and patiently imparted to me over half a lifetime. It is also dedicated to the wisdom of Norse mythology, and Pagan spirituality in general, especially that of Odin and his equine companion, teacher and protector; Sleipnir. It is Sleipnir’s wisdom that permeates these pages just as it is his magnificence, vitality and endurance which shows what all horses are capable of truly becoming if only we respect who they intrinsically are.
